The New Look
The site is up and running with the new design. It’s actually pretty sweet, if you’re seeing this in an RSS reader you’re missing out on some of the effect. You should at least see the home page.
The theme comes courtesy of Elegant Themes, a site I can’t recommend enough. They have some amazingly nice WordPress themes that work very well, totally worth the money. I’m also using one of their themes for the site for my upcoming wedding and I could not be more impressed.
To go with the redesign you’ll notice more pictures being used more often. To get the most out of the images it’s worth viewing each post in a browser, the RSS feed may not display them quite right.
As long as we’re talking shop, I’ll mention some of the plugins I’ve started using as well. If you’re not running WordPress, skip to the last paragraph.
Finally enabled WP Super Cache because I hadn’t got around to it before, and the site’s traffic is up.
Added WP Minify for the same reason.
Jetpack just for kicks, but I can’t say I recommend it yet. Nothing too impressive.
And finally TextReplace to aid with the other cool feature: margin notes.
Yes, that’s right: one thing you’ll notice in upcoming posts are margin notes.1 1. Like this one. If you’re reading this in a browser you’ll see that note nicely arranged to one side. If you’re reading in an RSS reader you’ll instead see it inline with the text. I totally support RSS but I’m also a layout snob, hopefully this compromise works for everyone. If you have the chance to read posts in a browser I highly recommend it, I think the new layout rewards it.

That margin note is hot! I’ve always been in love with marginalia and footnotes (House of Leaves is one of my favorite books), but I’ve never seen them on the side like that. Very nice.
Thanks!
I like the new look!
