#29 Black Cobra V

Today’s 30 Character Challenge character is Black Cobra V created by Vito Delsante.

Personality: Former Sidekick

Bobby served as a sidekick to the previous two Black Cobras, his brother Jim and FBI agent Steve Drake. Kind of like the early days of Wally West as the Flash, Bobby is defined by being a former sidekick, living in the shadow of those he feels he has to live up to.

Powers:

  • Luck (Innate) d10
  • Black Unit (Social, Army) d8
  • Superhero Family (Innate) d6
  • Soldier Kit (Gear) d6

I’m sure there’s some slang or something to describe the standard gear given to a soldier, but I’ve called it Soldier Kit here. It’s the basic set of gear a rank-and-file soldier would be carrying in Korea, since Bobby serves with the US military as a special forces unit. Images of the Comedian in Vietnam come to mind.

Being part of a relatively long line of heroes, being a hero is in Bobby’s blood. Kind of like some families just tend to produce police or doctors, the Hornsbys are heroes through and through. That isn’t actually enough, but Bobby is amazingly lucky, getting through the worst of times uncannily unharmed.

As part of his work with the military, the Black Cobra commands Black Unit, an elite squad dispatched on dangerous missions. I’ve listed them as a power here, but they could just as easily be the team the game is about, in which case I’d fill in a different power here.

Venom is no longer part of the picture. If I was playing Black Cobra V, I’d probably use the shift rules to swap out his powers at some point and bring Venom back into the picture at an appropriate moment, changing to a different power array.
