#27 Black Cobra III
Today’s 30 Character Challenge character is Black Cobra III created by Vito Delsante. Vito’s description here is mostly about the look of the character, so I get to run wild with everything else.
Personality: Big Brother
Not in the Orwellian sense, Jim Hornsby is just as much of a big brother to everyone he meets as he is to his younger brother and sidekick, Bobby.
Powers:
- Venom (Gear, Poison) d10
- Silent (Training) d8
- Cobra Kid (Training) d6
- District Attorney (Training) d6
Venom here isn’t the gun wielded by previous Black Cobras, but a chemical agent with strange unpredictable powers. Depending on where it’s applied and who it’s applied to, it can do anything from paralysis to mind control. The recipe is a closely guarded secret, and one of Black Cobra’s best shots at beating the Ratzi infestation.
Cobra Kid is Bobby, Jim’s kid brother and sidekick. Having not been entrusted with the Venom recipe yet, Bobby still fights the Axis with his fists and unstoppable attitude. Just like his big brother, he’s learned from snakes the secrets of moving silently, the better to strike with surprise.
Finally, Jim is a damn good DA. Going back to my feelings on Superman/Clark Kent, Black Cobra III is like those takes on Superman (like Birthright) where being a reporter actually matters, where Clark Kent’s skills get used even when the cape is on. Beneath that cowl Jim still investigates like a DA.
