#17 Tuo the Alligator Man

Today’s 30 Character Challenge character is Tuo the Alligator Man created by Vito Delsante.

Personality: Zen Master

There were a lot of possibilities for which direction to take Tuo, but most of the others seemed close to characters I’ve already made for PFG. Not that each character has to be that different, but I figured I’d add some variety.

Tuo is wise beyond his years; calm, focused and kind. He’s Mr. Miyagi without the Karate Kid. Vito wasn’t sure if he was a hero or villain, I went the hero route.

Powers:

  • Shaolin Strikes (Training, Alligator Style) d10
  • Vice Jaws (Mutation, Fighting) d8
  • Urban Legend (Training, Social) d6
  • Mutated Hide (Mutation, Defense) d6

Writing up Tuo made it apparent just how well a kung-fu superteam would work in PFG.

Tuo of course practices the Alligator Style. I opted to make Alligator Style a tag instead of the name of the power so that it can be related to other tags during play. PFG completely supports that moment where you say “but your crane style is nothing against my alligator style!”

Vice jaws and mutated hide were the only things I could think of that particularly stand out in my head about alligators, so I made them powers. I also could have just rolled them into one power “Mutated Alligator,” but I felt like these two were worth splitting out.

Urban legend is Tuo’s last power. Just like Batman, his reputation proceeds him, and he can use it to his advantage. When Tuo fights the superpowered wing of the Triads, the snap of a branch is enough to set the guards on edge with visions of snapping jaws.
